This in-person masterclass, your will develop a comprehensive and cohesive API Governance framework for your team, line of business or whole organisation that will tame API sprawl and prepare you for AI

Mark is the founder of Platformable, a purpose-focused business that supports the development of open digital ecosystems. He is a researcher, policy analyst and writer who has been working in the fields of data systems and APIs for over 30 years. He is the lead author of the European Commission’s API Framework for Digital Government, has advised the World Bank on enabling data and API integrations for financial inclusion, and has completed research on data governance global best practices for the World Health Organization. He has led the development of an API governance model at Platformable which is now used by enterprises and organisations around the world, including UN agencies.

You will create a roadmap for taking practical steps towards implementing API governance with your team, line of business or whole organisation, and will be able to identify specific opportunities to increase the likelihood that your APIs will create value when used in AI use cases

How to leverage your API governance practices for AI will be throughout each topic.

This is a hands-on training session with exercises to complete in a training handbook or in online interactive forms.

What is API governance? An introduction to the framework

Setting goals for your API governance initiative, understanding your context and taking inventory

Applying industry standards to your APIs, creating an internal API style guide, and applying an API specification template to your APIs

An overview of different approaches to streamline internal resources to aid standardization and API design across an organization. In particular, a discussion of the role of an internal developer portal (IDP) is explained, and guides to establish an IDP, API catalogue and playbook are provided.

An overview of currently available tools to assist with API design and linters to ensure standards/style guides are being used. as well as an overview of different types of API testing, and what tools assist with each type of testing and why they are important.

How to automate API governance tools and processes so that individual decision-makers and organisational roles do not become bottlenecks that slow down development and deployment of new APIs, while ensuring quality and security mechanisms are upheld.

Bring your whole API governance process to fruition and ensure developers know about the style guide, API design best practices, data models, and deployment processes.

At the end of the course, a quiz will validate the adquired knowledge.

The quiz will take place on apiMasters’ platform, where you will need to create an account.
